SASO is the abbreviation of English Saudi Arabian Standards Organization, which means Saudi Arabian Standards Organization. SASO is responsible for formulating national standards for all daily necessities and products. The standards also include measurement systems and labels.
I. Introduction to Certification
In fact, many of the SASO standards are based on the safety standards of relevant international organizations such as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Like many other countries, Saudi Arabia has added some unique items to the standard based on its national and industrial voltage, geography and climate, ethnic and religious habits. In order to achieve consumer protection, the SASO standard not only applies to products imported from abroad, but also applies to products produced in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Industry and Commerce and SASO require all products covered by SASO certification standards to have SASO certification when entering Saudi customs. Products without SASO certificates will be refused entry by Saudi port customs.
Product range
SASO certification covers all products used by adults and children in residential, office or entertainment venues, all motor vehicles and spare parts, and construction products. These products can be divided into the following categories:
Air-conditioning SASO, battery SASO, cosmetics SASO, toy SASO, compressor SASO, fan SASO, home appliance SASO, wire and cable SASO, fax machine SASO, lamp SASO, light power SASO, elevator SASO, generator SASO, office electrical appliances SASO, personal computer SASO, power supply SASO, auto parts SASO, ceramic SASO, audio SASO, amplifier SASO, conference system SASO, mixer SASO
All cities in Saudi Arabia use lower voltages, which are divided into 127 volts and 220 volts (235 volts in Riyadh), both at 60 Hz; however, higher voltages are used in Mecca and industrial areas, with 220 and 380 volts. Two types, also 60 Hz. Ordinary homes and offices have both 110 volts (that is, 127 volts) and 220 volt electrical sockets for electrical appliances of different voltages. Generally speaking, air conditioners and washing machines are more commonly used with 220 volts. , Small appliances use 110 volts.
SASO products can be divided into the following categories:
Air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, heating equipment
battery
cosmetic
toy
Compressors and fans
Household electrical appliances
Household pressure cooker
Wire and Cable
fax machine
Home switches and circuit breakers
Lamps and lighting equipment
Elevator and lifting system

Main procedures for SASO certification of construction products, coatings, etc .: SASO charges and processing time Inspection fee calculation method: FOB value is below (60,000 USD) Fixed charge: 1950RMBFOB value is between (60,000 USD to 200'000 USD) Time) 0.45% x FOB2, testing fee: depending on the product. 3. Time: about 3 weeks
Manufacturers need to obtain SASO certification and export products to Saudi Arabia, which requires the following steps:
Apply to the consulting company, and the consulting company will inform the company of the product certification procedure according to the product category and the requirements of SASO;
The enterprise submits product samples for testing in accordance with the certification procedure, and some products (such as some motor vehicles and accessories products) require factory inspection;
After passing the product test, the company obtains the SASO certification; if the product fails the test, the company will get a detailed report
Products are exported to Saudi Arabia. SASO certification is required when the goods enter the customs. Technical personnel of the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization will check the certificate; if SASO certificates cannot be issued, the products will be refused entry or sampled to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Industry and Commerce The testing conducted by the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization's laboratory. If the test fails, the product will be refused entry, and all costs will be borne by the exporting company.
Third, the certification form
A) Pre-shipment Compliance Verification
This method is best suited for exporters or manufacturers who ship very few. Before each shipment, you need to apply for pre-shipment inspection (PSI) and pre-shipment test (PST). A CoC certificate can be obtained if both are qualified.
B) Product Registration
This method is suitable for the vast majority of customers. Its advantage is that although each shipment inspection (PSI) is necessary, each shipment does not need to undergo pre-shipment testing (PST). Customers can obtain the Statement of Registration (SfR) by submitting a declaration of compliance, and providing a test report that conforms to the importing country and relevant international or domestic standards, and declares that the product has met the basic requirements and national differences of the importing country.
C) Type Approval Licensing
This method not only saves the inspection fee or testing fee before each shipment, simplifies repeated application procedures, but also guarantees delivery time. Therefore, some shipments are more frequent or larger, focusing on quality and reputation. Favored by the company. An exporter or manufacturer's product can only obtain a Statement for Licence (SfL) certificate if it fully complies with the mandatory standards of the importing and exporting country. The certificate is valid for one year. Before expiration, you need to submit an updated factory inspection report and pay an annual fee, which can be renewed after being reviewed by RLC. Products that have obtained the SfL certificate no longer need to undergo pre-shipment inspection (PSI) for each batch, but are reduced to a few times a year (usually 2-3 times / year, depending on the condition of the product).
Fourth, matters needing attention
* Testing is based on SASO / PAI standards or IEC standards + national differences. The requirements of SASO / PAI standards need to be considered separately, and some terms are quite different. Saudi Arabia's rated voltage is 220V, 50 / 60Hz (with BS plug) or 127V, 60Hz (With UL plug) (need to provide another prototype for testing); Kuwait voltage is 240V, 50Hz (with BS plug).
* Products prohibited from export to Saudi Arabia include: weapons, alcohol, sedatives, pork, pornographic materials, brewing equipment, fireworks, Christmas trees, masks, video phones, toys or statues representing animals or people.
* Class 0 and Class I electrical products are not allowed. Tropical temperature: + 45 ° C. The label is Arabic; the plug must comply with SASO 2203/2003 (220V), SASO 2204/2003 (127V);
* Type approval requires factory inspection;
* For electrical products exported to Saudi Arabia, the rated frequency marked on the product must include 60Hz;
* The user manual for air conditioners exported to Saudi Arabia must be in Arabic and English; for audio and video products, the user manual must be in Arabic;
Original safety regulations and EMC reports must be reports issued by accredited laboratories within 2-3 years.
